DISCOVERY OF MINT ALCOHOL IN 1838
The fabulous story of Ricqlès Mint Alcohol began 180 years ago in the South of France.
In the early 19th century, Heyman de Ricqlès was a young silk merchant with a passion for botany. He began by studying the mulberry leaves on which silkworms feed, before discovering a particular interest in peppermint (Mentha Piperita), which grows not far from his home in Provence. Convinced of the beneficial virtues of this high-grade mint, he began research into its marvellous properties.
By steam distilling peppermint leaves, Heyman de Ricqlès succeeded in isolating the active ingredients and extracting a natural essential oil of the highest quality. Then, through various manipulations and the addition of high-temperature alcohol, he succeeded in preserving all the properties of peppermint essential oil intact.
In 1838, Heyman de Ricqlès invented the original formula for Ricqlès Mint Alcohol, using a manufacturing process that has remained a secret for 180 years!
PEPPERMINT
Peppermint (Mentha piperita), the central ingredient in Ricqlès Mint Alcohol, is an aromatic plant from the Lamiaceae family. The essential oil, contained in small quantities in the leaves of fresh peppermint, has aromas with refreshing notes. All the art of Ricqlès resides in its unique way of extracting this precious essential oil, according to a process that is kept secret and remains unchanged since 1838.
