The URGO Group has taken another strategic step forward with the announcement of a €60 million investment in the construction of its fifth French industrial site, in order to support the strong growth of its medical compression range. Located in Andrézieux-Bouthéon (Loire), this 35,000 m² factory will create 200 direct jobs and 115 indirect jobs in the region. With this new facility, URGO is confirming its ambition to become the world leader in medical compression while maintaining its commitment to local production in France. 100% of its innovative medical compression products will be manufactured in the Loire region. This investment was recognized as part of Choose France on November 17, 2025.
URGO, France’s bid for global leadership
In a drive to conquer new markets, URGO is accelerating to respond to the strong international growth of its UrgoK2 medical compression range. This investment secures 100% of the production of this innovative textile in France in the long term, positioning the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region as a global hub for medical textiles.
Producing cutting-edge medical solutions locally guarantees patient safety and strengthens France’s strategic autonomy in healthcare.
A new cutting-edge technology project, creating jobs and value in the region
The future site, located 5 km from the historic Veauche factory, will cover 9 hectares. It will bring together cutting-edge production and logistics in one place. The €60 million invested between now and 2029 will enable the construction of a complex incorporating the latest industry standards in terms of Industry 4.0 (automation, industrial IT, industrial development).
The project is expected to create 200 direct jobs and 115 indirect jobs over the next 10 years. To meet the challenge of skills shortages in these high-demand professions, URGO will rely in particular on its in-house Textile School, created in 2022 in partnership with France Travail and Maya Campus, which aims to train and recruit 10 permanent employees per year.
A French venture rooted in our regions, from Burgundy to the Loire Valley
With its four letters at the heart of the word BoURGOgne, the French family business founded in 1882 in this region has become a global benchmark in healthcare. With strong
international growth bringing its turnover to nearly €890 million, the group remains true to its roots and has made the strategic choice to manufacture 80% of its products in France. This strong industrial commitment is embodied in its regional strongholds: in Burgundy, of course, but also in the Loire, where URGO transformed the Veauche site into a center of excellence in 1997, bringing together 130 employees and working with 175 local partners.
The new investment in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, which has received €600,000 in funding from Saint-Etienne Métropole and support from ONLYLYON Invest, confirms this commitment to creating lasting value and jobs in French regions.
For Guirec Le Lous, URGO Medical CEO, this investment embodies a sustainable industrial vision:
« In a challenging economic climate, we have chosen to continue investing in France. My grandfather was an army pharmacist during World War II and experienced shortages of healthcare products. He had a deep conviction: to create a French healthcare flagship to ensure the sovereignty of French patients. We are proud to continue this legacy. With this investment and the creation of 315 jobs, we are reaffirming our strategic choice: to produce, innovate, and build our future in France. Our goal is clear: to become the world leader in medical textiles made entirely in France, while supporting France’s ambition for healthcare sovereignty.»
For Saint-Etienne Métropole : « With the URGO Group setting up on a site covering nearly 9 hectares in the ZAIN Loire Sud industrial park in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, Saint-Etienne Métropole is strengthening its position among France’s leading regions for healthcare and innovation. This large-scale project, representing an investment of €60 million and ultimately creating 200 direct jobs, demonstrates Saint-Etienne Métropole’s ambition to welcome and provide long-term support to industrial companies that create activity, value, and jobs, thanks to a tailored land offering and customized support. Yes, more than ever, Saint-Etienne Métropole is an attractive region that benefits all its inhabitants.».
